Resort / Coast / Beaches
Cala Mandia is a quiet low-rise resort with a few Bars and Restaurants. There are two Hotels with different evening programmes just a stroll away. Overall, it is a good base if you want somewhere away from the hustle and bustle, but with all the facilities, and would like to use it as a central starting point for island excursions.
There are three sandy beaches. All are beautiful and very safe for children. Cala Mandia has been awarded the blue flag for water quality. There are also boat trips along the local coastline. You can take a 2 hour round trip to Porto Cristo. The boat stops half way and lets the passengers have a dip in the sea. A real treat. Recommended are also trips to Son Amar, Marineland, Calador, Porto Colom and the City of Palma.
Further details
Hop on the tourist train (stops 100m form the apartment), this will take you in to Porto Cristo, which has lots of nice shops to look around. From Porto Cristo you can get a bus to almost anywhere on the Island . The tourist train cost £2.00 per person and includes the return trip. If you choose to get a taxi to and from Porto Cristo it will cost around £6.00 each way.
There is a British pub called Molly Browns where you can get food served to an excellent standard with a varied menu of traditional and local produce, pool tables, bar games & childrens entertainment. The food there is good and the atmosphere is very friendly, all the staff are also very freindly and the owner Nicki will always assist in giving help or advice on your trip.
Next door to the apartment complex is ‘Las Palmeras’, a typical Mallorcan restaurant serving international and local cuisine to a very reasonable price, run by Paco and his wife. Also recommended is Los Olivius in Cala Romantica (5 minutes away).
Cala Mandia also has numerous tennis courts and there is a Scuba Diving school at the beach.
A car is not essential but it is the best way to explore this beautiful exotic island.
Golf & Other Interests
There are several excellent golf courses locally and many on Mallorca. See our links page to arrange booking and fees.
There is also horse racing in Palma and Manacor most weekends which is excellent fun as it is with carts.
